Five of Six Aggies rescued from Galveston waters

TAMUG News

If you have not heard, six members of the Aggie family were lost at sea during during the 2008 sailing race from Galveston to Veracruz, Mexico, the Regata de Amigos.

After 26 hours in the water, five of the six crew were found and rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. Unfortunately, the body of the only remaining member of the crew was found this afternoon (Sunday, June 8).

The five rescued crew are being treated in a Galveston hospital for dehydration and sunburn. They're all five listed in stable condition and each reports a similar story of the sixth member of the crew, Roger Stone, as having made their survival, and subsequent rescue, possible.

Please keep all the members of the vessel, and especially Stone's family, in your thoughts and prayers. The Aggie family is very important to us who attend(ed) the university, and especially at times like these, we reach out to our fellow Aggies and friends for support.

Thanks,

Michael

Thoughts and prayers for all the families and a big thanks to the USCG. Having spent a lot of time racing sailboats offshore the story is particularly sobering
