I carry an ACR Firefly 2. It's only rated to 33 feet, but hasn't flooded yet. Granted, I haven't had it much past 70 feet. Just aren't that many deep spots around here.

Now, a strobe on the top of the SMB - that would be cool. Just don't want to drop it - they're negative, and that just would be a bad feeling to watch that thing sink.

I have mine set up same as we have them at work - big old patch of velcro on the back. And on the left shoulder of my Ranger - yup, there's a velcro strap for the inflator that it sticks nicely to. Cooool.

Some boats have a tag system. Before you enter, you clip a numbered tag to your BC. When you board the boat at exit, you replace the tag on the board. DAN has a system like this.

Hi on all the dives i've done at scouts we were forced to have a tag with us when we decended and we also had areas that were off limits to beginning swimmers if you passed the swim test you could dive wherever they said was okay for diving plus all the lower diving level areas and we never left anyone behind.

I think what was meant (or at least how I would do it) is to shine my flashlight up the inside of the SMB. You then have a 6ft high orange light saber that glows in all directions - admitedly not a brightly as pointing a beam at someone, but you don't have to point it. Keep the strobe attached to your BCD as backup or in addition to the constant glowing SMB. I'm going to have to try this at home tonight.

Strobe is a thousand times more visible than a glowing SMB - scroll back and read my and FlingWingSquid's - I mean, NavyOnStar's, comments on visibility of strobes. - I'd paraphrase, but I'm typing on a Blackb erry right now.
