a hook issue

in one of my dives , near the shore whre fishermens try fishing , a hook with a wire that was connected (tied) intoa rock caught my suit. my budy tried to release me from the hook and the wire but after short dealling with it unseccessfully he used his knife iand within seconds released me.
since then i got a diving knife just for the relief of safety.
you might concider it to

Glad you got freed up from that hook!

I always carry a knife and hd shears and sometimes a second knife.

Good advise for everyone.

I was about to use my knife (also had EMT shears and smaller knife) to free my instructor from a fishing line and hook during a night specialty dive, when I was lifted up and spun around, presumably by the line, while was holding the line where it hooked my instructor. I ended up not using my knife as the fisherman's knot wasn't very strong and the line came off the hook.

Didn't use my knife, but was surely glad that I had it.

Both a knife or EMT Sheers work great For fishing line I prefer the Knife over the EMT Sheers but with the Op saying there was wire attached I would think the sheers would do better for this. JMHO

I was hooked by a fisherman last year. I was near the end of a 70' dive on the jetties in St. Andrews SP, Panama City, Florida.

Luckily, the leader and hook snagged my glove, not hand, before coming loose. It slid up the line to my dive flag, hooking it near the surface.

I pulled my knife out, but not to cut the line. First I banged my tank trying to get my son's attention as I got pulled away. Then I diverted my focus upwards. I was preparing to have a little come-to-jesus meeting with the guy who cast at my dive flag. Then the thing came loose when I was at about 30', trying to slowly ascend while fighting the line. I think he pulled my flag in and unhooked it. I gave up and headed down.

My 14yr. old son and my brother were my "buddies" that day. Neither of them saw me dragged off, as they were posing for goofy photos with each other. You should have seen the quizzical look I got when I swam back waving my knife at them and shouting underwater.

Daddy was angry. My son got an earful later.

So far I have not had too much in the way of interaction from Fishermen...I have had some digusted looks and one guy did tell me I was out of my mind back in October. It was the last dive of the year and the water was warmer than the air that Sunday morning. Guy on the dock ready to launch his boat just stares at me while I get my suit wet as my buddy was prepping his gear

"You are CRAZY Man!'

He did not want to hear that is was warmer in the water than out.
