DoD Identifies Army Casualties
I don't know why I feel like sharing this but I do.
I guess it is the first loss of some one that we knew. He was my husbands soldier for a year before going to Bamburg. He left behind a wife and 1 year old daughter. We found out a week ago. The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Spc. Ryan J. Connolly, 24, of Vacaville, Calif., died June 24 in Khogyani, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle struck a suspected landmine. He was assigned to the 173rd Special Troops Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Bamberg, Germany. Sam Spade's San Francisco: Spc. Ryan J. Connolly, Vacaville - A Tribute May he rest in peace and his family be comforted.

My condolences. I was in Iraq in '03 and providing oversight to USMC casualties was one of my duties. I know the pain of losing someone you knew directly. The problem was that I could not spread the word so to speak until his death went through official channels.
Prayers sent your way as well as the families.

Tim  They called themselves Guerrilla Divers. Composed of elite divers with Macho mentalities, back when men were men, and FEAR was a lispy companion of the common Man. It was a time before insurance liabilities, lawsuits or beauracratic regulation of the "sport". Guerrilla divers didn't need "Buoyancy Compensator Vests". In fact, "Anyone who needs a BC deserves to drown" was a popular adage. Exploration and the Hunt came first, excitement and fun followed. I deployed with my working dog to Afghanistan from Dec 02- Oct 03. The rest of my Battalion went to Iraq during the initial invation. We lost our BN Commander and two others in the year they were there.
My prayers go to all the members of the military.

My cousin's half brother about 3 weeks ago got shot in Afghanistan. Shot in the jaw and came out through his neck. He will make a full recovery over time. But tragic none the less.

May he rest in peace, and may his family find peace as well. It is tough losing someone unexpectedly. I hope the family finds closure in knowing that he was not only serving his country but defending others as well.
