I'm with you I carry both for pretty much the same reason.

You guys got me thinking now....
so tell me...

I have pretty good (not GREAT, but pretty good) medical insurance through my workplace...and have the Dan insurance as well.....I can't see that there would be any reason for me to have the DA also, ...would there?

I was just about to post the same question. Does my primary health insurance not cover dive related injuries, or would the secondary insurance cover what my primary doesn't (recompression, etc)?

I wasn't sure either. For $75, I didn't have to look it up through my primary coverage, and then compare the differences. Better safe than sorry.

I don't really see much of a need to double-up with DAN & DiveAssure, but for the cost of the dive insurance (compared to the cost of dive gear), it's cheap enough to do.

I realize that I didn't answer your question, but that's the perspective that I'm coming from.

I still recommend becoming a DAN member. The membership covers the non-profit part of DAN and I give thanks every time I dive knowing they are there to answer any questions I have 24/7. I have no experience with Diveassure but I'm sure they do a great job. I have always had DAN and take trip insurance with the cheapest company for trips. I take 7 to 8 trips annually but that expense is covered by the shop. I take 3 or 4 to decompress and always just pay the extra through an internet search. Ya'll do have me thinking that it might be cheaper to carry both. Thanks

How many trips a year do you do? If you are doing 4-6 trips a year you will spend $100 to $200 a trip for travel insurance. DiveAssure incorporates that with the dive insurance. I keep the basic Dan as it is not that expensive, extra insurance and if I want to call Dan for any reason I can.

i'm with the "carry both" crowd -
regular health insurance rarely covers "risky activities" never has the right chamber coverage etc etc etc.
I carry both dan and dive assure - a small price to pay for what could be a financial disaster or worse: not getting the care you need when and where you need it.
