DiveAssure or DAN

They seems similar, though I noticed that DiveAssure offers optional trip protection insurance (which I already have through TravelGuard).

Do either offer ST Forum Member discounts or are there any major differences between the two? It seems like DAN is less expensive.

DAN is secondary coverage... they only pay once your primary insurance stops paying. (They also cover your deductible)

DiveAssure is primary coverage.

I use DAN and they have been helpful when I needed them...and I think they do offer some form of trip insurance if you have the right plan.

DAN offers trip insurance. They also offer equipment insurance.

After reviewing the coverages, it looks like DiveAssure offers the same benefits, and more, for their lowest level 'Gold' coverage as DAN does for their most comprehensive 'Preferred Plan'. The exception is 'Accidental Death & Dismemberment / Diving $15,000'. That's an add-on option with DiveAssure.

The price difference between the two for a 1 year membership is $5.

$75-DA/$70 DAN

I can't speak for diveassure, but when it comes to DAN's customer service and emergency information/response, it is top notch. For $70 a year (premium plan), I can rest assured knowing that I have a dive physician on speed dial in case of an accident, and that everything will be taken care of. That in itself is reassuring.

Both are actually written by or through AIG. The difference, as CompuDude stated, is that DiveAssure is primary coverage, while Dan is secondary. I am proud to be a member of Dan, but being self-employed, with a huge deductible on my major medical insurance, I went with DiveAssure for the insurance on my entire diving family.

I ended up going with DiveAssure since it is primary coverage, I already have existing coverage to make up for the lack of a death benefit, and I have no dependents to have to worry about.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. When it came down to it, the tie-breaker was between primary or secondary.

I have both, Dan basic and the Diamond DiveAssure. Being I do 4 to 6 trips a year, DiveAssure covers the trip insurance for all trips in one payment.
