Thanks for posting this. I actually just found out about this recently. Unbelievably sad... but I've changed my purchasing choices because of it, as well as a few other behaviors. And I used to be probably the worst person in the world as far as convenience vs. ecology went.

Yeah, kind of par for the course for a media company with "Vice" in the title. It's a shame they couldn't watch their language a little more closely, but they market to a niche group.

That niche being hipster sailors (as in curse like a) of course

Pretty intense series. It's really sad how much stuff we throw away that winds up "somewhere out there..."

On the Hawaiian island of Kauai, near Po'ipu beach, there is a section of the beach that is littered with garbage from the early 1900s. The interesting thing about this beach is that the garbage is actually cemented to the rock of the beach. Here is a photograph showing my geology professor explaining the origin of the garbage on this beach.

On this beach you can find everything from engine blocks to Ford Model-T wheels, glass bottles, and all kinds of iron scrap. It was originally dumped a few miles up the beach, and ended up collecting here. It is incredible how stupid humans can be at times.

Eventually the ocean will belch a lot of the garbage back onto beaches, resulting in the beautiful scene pictured above. Now all we need is some lava to burn/cover it up.

Get to it mother earth!
