Diver found floating off Hollywood Beach

More sad news for our diving comunity.

Diver found dead off Hollywood beach - Breaking News - MiamiHerald.com

By DAVID SMILEY

dsmiley@MiamiHerald.com

Police are investigating the death of a diver who was found floating in the waters off Hollywood beach, authorities said.
Lifeguards setting up for a junior lifeguard program noticed something floating about 400 yards off the beach near 1301 S. Ocean Dr. just before 9 a.m., said Hollywood Fire Rescue Division Chief Mark Steele.
At least one of the lifeguards rode a personal watercraft out to investigate and found a man in full dive gear floating in the water, he said. The man, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hollywood police spokesman Lt. Manny Marino said it appears the diver, whose identity is unknown, may have been in the water about 12 hours.
''It looks like some kind of diving accident or a natural death,'' he said. ''There's no trauma'' to the body.
Marino said Hollywood police have contacted other police agencies in the area to learn if there are any reports of a missing diver, but have not yet heard back.
An autopsy will likely be performed to determine how the man died, he said.

Sadder is that not only do they have no ID at this point, but given up to 12 hours, he could have been a lot further south. Strange no word about missing diver from yesterday

Hoping they can identify him soon and family will be notified.

Sad to hear this, everytime a diver goes down for the last time is a sad day.... I wonder if he was trained for Solo diving, or if he just thought that he could do it. What type of gear did he have with him, and if he DID have a buddy, that freaked out cause some sort of accident happened.

I hope if he did have a buddy, and that the person would come forward...

When I first saw the headlines I figured he may have gotten hit by the boat that struck the divers the other day in that area. Guess the timing was off and no trauma so it was a not a boat. Very strange.

Prayers to the family...

Not to be morbid, but I am a little curious to the events leading up to his discovery, but in the end it doesn't matter, I only hope that his family is well as they can be wth this tragedy.
