Stupid things that I have done

I figured this would fit under the "accidents" category.

Preamble:
Many moons ago in a land far away...Ok, it was 5 or 6 years ago, outside of Cudjoe Key (FL Keys).

I was visiting a friend in the Keys and had towed my 16' flats boat (Hewes Bonefisher) down to do a little diving. So there we were, 4 AL 80's, 2 BC's, and 3 men in one little boat. We were right at the weight limit. On the way out, Tim made sure that I stayed within the poorly marked and narrow channel. It was late in the day when we started. We dove for about an hour before deciding to head back to the barn.

The Story:
The sun was starting to set. One of us commented that it was a beautiful sunset. All three of us turned to look....Did I forget to mention that we were traveling down the narrow channel at roughly 30 knots?...I ran up on a sand shoal. While somersaulting over the center console, I managed to mash the throttle all the way forward. We ended up in a puppy pile in the front of the boat. (Puppy pile = mass of squirming bodies in which you can not tell which tail belongs to which puppy). The outboard motor was now screaming at the upper rev limiter, while completely lifted out of the water. We struggled for a few moments until Ed was able to free an arm and reach the throttle. So there we sat in 6” of water. Luckily, the three of us were able to get out and push the boat back into the channel. I would love to have video of that one. I am sure that we were a spectacle.

Does anybody else want to share their bone-head maneuver?

A couple of years ago, went out on the Jet Skis 2 Honda F12X Aquatrax out of Alligator Point just south of Tallahassee for the day, going out we were just crusing etc and spent the day out on the water, as it got late in the afternoon we decided to go back little did we know we had gone out at high tide over oysterbars now it was low tide ran the jetski up onto an oysterbar in less than 6 inches of water going around 20mph. I had no shoes and had to push/pull/lift the 900 lb jetski back into the deeper water and off the oyster bar, ended up cutting my feet pretty badly, after I got it off I realized there was a channel over to the right I had not seen untill then, a testimant to Honda engineering and fiberglass there was notthing wrong with the jetski besides some scrapes in the hull which had no effect.

Once upon a time, I went on a charter dive in Boston Harbor and forgot my hood, boots, gloves, and also forgot to get one of my tanks filled.

Okay, it was this past saturday. Shouldn't have waited until the last minute to get my stuff together.

Flash back - 2 years ago

On a charter getting suited up for our 2nd dive. Entire charter was full of friends and all very good divers. Meaning, don't screw up or you'll hear about it forever.

Before entering, double checked all equipment. Mask, OK - Fins, check - weight, good - air, alright - I then make the comment to some friends that I'm good to go and leap off the back. Doesn't take your mind very long to register that you forgot to zip up the old drysuit.

For once I wished I hadn't been the first one off the boat.

Went fishing in the marsh and ran up on a mud bank. Thank goodness we were barely moving and were in a flat boat. lifted the motor out of the mud and paddled to deeper water. Very intresting day!

I grounded my boat in the lake my first year. Was heading back from watching the the 4th of July fireworks (at night) on an unfamiliar lake. I had to raise the outdrive and paddle my way out. This was also what promted me to buy a depth finder the next week. This is also why we bought a cheap, 20 year old boat as our first. On another boo-boo I curled the prop blades on shallow rocks (same outing). I spent an hour with a piece of sandstone smoothing and shaping the prop blades with the boat beached.

Fortunately, I have been a much better boater since then.
