I have been a cop since 1980 and have seen some purely evil people.
I think most folks try to be good and there are some very good and decent folks out there that put the rest of us to shame. FWIW, I have arrested a Catholic priest before for a sex crime that made him an ex-priest (last I heard he was now running a bed-and-breakfast business at his home.) Priests can often have the same faults as regular folks. And I have arrested cops before that have done some very bad stuff as well. In this case it appears that this murdered priest was a good guy and his death is a senseless killing. Who knows what triggered this attack but somewhere down the road the killer will try to put some of the blame on his victim. There does seem to be a lot more senseless violence these days. Everywhere you turn around a child is abducted and murdered or kids resort to using guns instead of their fists to settle scores. We never saw the likes of the Columbine and VA Tech masaacres 30 years ago. It seems a cliche but I think it has a lot to do with movies, TV and the internet making our young folks used to violence. And the drug problem makes it so much worse. Many homes I go to I see kids raised in deplorable conditions and know that this will be a continuing pattern as these kids willl grow up and raise their kids in even worse conditions as they do not know any other way. Two days ago I executed a search warrant at a mobile home park. When entering the home there were two unmarried couples raising 4 kids in a 2 bedroom trailer where you could not see the walls for the roaches, the floor was covered throughout with a foot thick layer of trash, clothes, food containers and cat feces. The stench was unbearable. The sink and counters in the kitchen were piled up several feet high with pans of rotting food, dishes and opened cans of food. Everything you opened had roaches jumping out of it. The sink was clogged up and was a biohazard. I won't even tell you about the bathroom. The bedroom the kids shared with their parents had porno CDs lying out in the open along with some crusty "toys". One mom got right in our face and got nasty with my guys. I asked her, "What's with the attitude?" She advised me that she " I don't like cops being around my kids." and wanted us to leave. I told her if she was that concerned with her kids environment I could understand that and would take care of the problem. I guess she thought I was going to leave but I called child protective services on them instead. She was given 2 hours to put her kids in a home that was approved by CPS or they were going to be put in a protective foster home until they cleaned up their act and are opening up a case for child neglect/ abuse. Some people should not be allowed to have kids... I have no doubt that these kids will grow up to be even worse than their parents are now. Life was better back in the day when we watched Leave it To Beaver, The Andy Griffin Show and Sea Hunt. I think people need to realize we as a society are slowly degrading and that there are some evil, mean and dangerous people in every community, no matter how trendy or affluent. You better learn to start locking your doors, be alert, help your neighbors look out for one another and don't depend on the police to protect you. Get a gun and learn how and when to use it and think defensively. Unfortunately, I am pretty certain it is only going to get worse. Have a nice day ! |

The nice thing is that you have the ability and authority to enact an immediate change in the status. I have seen the same conditions and can't do anything directly, rather I have to get PD in volved and in some bizarre cases the courts have rules that my blowing the whistle is not probable cause for PD's decision.
On topic, I am glad that they have a suspect in custody already.
