Caribbean Nations To Block The Creation Of Whale Sanctuaries

ACT NOW: BOYCOTT CARIBBEAN NATIONS THAT COLLUDE WITH JAPAN TO BLOCK THE CREATION OF WHALE SANCTUARIES

In a desperate bid to overturn the moratorium and boost its whaling industry, Japan is extorting six Caribbean nations with offers of aid.
The governments of Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and St. Vincent all vote with Japan at annual International Whaling Commission (IWC) meetings to block conservation measures such as the creation of whale sanctuaries in the South Pacific.
Ironically, these same six Caribbean nations are largely dependent on tourism industries that lure travelers to "paradise" with eco-friendly promises of pristine reefs, whale watching and dolphin encounters.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND ACT NOW

Write government officials in Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and demand an end to vote selling on behalf of Japan's agenda to block whale sanctuaries and overturn the ban on commercial whaling. You may use this sample letter or write your own. The letter will automatically be sent to 71 government and tourism officials in Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and St. Vincent.

Dear Sirs and Madam:
I was shocked and deeply disappointed to learn that your nation has colluded with Japan to block whale sanctuaries and overturn the ban on commercial whaling.
Even as you assist the Japanese in their slaughter of whales, you nonetheless use the concept of marine conservation in your ongoing promotion of your nation as an eco-friendly holiday destination - where dive travelers and tourists are invited to enjoy whale watching, dolphin encounters, and diving and snorkeling on pristine reefs.
I find these double standards hypocritical, repugnant and entirely unacceptable. You cannot be both for and against marine conservation at the same time: Which is it?
I respectfully request that government officials thoroughly review and reflect on your country's commitment to Japan's commercial whaling agenda. I respectfully request that you withdraw your support of Japan's agenda to block whale sanctuaries and resume commercial whaling. I respectfully request that you demonstrate your commitment to protecting marine wildlife within your own coastal waters by adopting sound conservation policies that reflect the positions of the world's leading marine conservation and wildlife protection organizations.
Your present stance on the killing of whales leaves me no alternative than to inform you that I will personally refrain from visiting your country or patronizing any of its tourism operations, and I will, by all means at my disposal, encourage other divers and tourists to do the same. There are many other popular holiday destinations that can be visited, where government actions demonstrate a strong and consistent commitment to marine conservation and wildlife protection.
Thank you for your prompt consideration of my request, and your vigorous commitment to protecting marine wildlife everywhere.
Sincerely,
Concerned Traveler and Frequent Caribbean Visitor

the link didn;t work for me, but over fishing of any specie is a shame and there is really no need to hunt whales anymore

I read an interesting article about Japanese whalers not long ago. They said essentially, that it was America's fault they had to eat whales in WW2 since America had supposedly introduced Japan to the meat, and now they have to continue living that way. However, they didn't say WHY they had to, and the children they were feeding the whale meat to stated that whales tasted like utter crap and preferred other mammals instead

Get us a proper link working here, I'd like to see the petition myself, please!

Japan is just pissed that no one likes Playstation3.

i understand back in the days (like im old or something) the hunting for whales was necessary, to produce consumer products, but now a days, with so many synthetic materials out there?? why??

We were in Dominica 3 years a go and they were going to start getting aid from Japan and China. The dive operator was really concerned about the effect this was going to have on the fish population. The Island is poor and I'm sure will take money from what ever nation will provide.

I just sent mine in as well.

And yes,... the world does tend to either hate the USA or blame the USA for their problems, but you let one of them get their ass in a crack and just see who the first one thats always called to help clean up the mess or fix the problem.
