Accident at Windy Point 10/13

There was an accident this afternoon at Windy Point (Barstows) on Lake Travis outside of Austin,TX.

A diver on an AOW course apparently lost contact with his group. He was found on the bottom sometime later and brought to the surface. EMS were working on him but it did not look good. He was Star flighted out of the park.

Anybody know if he made it?

That sounds awful - When I've been in classes I was hoping the instructors were taking good care of me. Hope this person makes it!

My second day of diving, I worked a rescue situiation. It almost scared my wife away from diving! My prayers go to the family and the victim

That is terrible. I feel bad for the family. Wonder why he didn't follow protocol and surface after not finding his buddy in about 1 minute. I know he was taking AOW, but apparently he did not have much experience. Unfortunate accident.

This is very sad. My thoughts go out to his family.

It's a bit unnerving to me because the day I did my OW checkouts at CSSP that teenage girl drown, and I did my AOW at Windy Point last month. Of the millions of safe dives every year, including thousands of safe dives at those locations, there were two fatalities at the places I've dived the most.

Be safe out there, stick with your buddy, continue to get more training....

And don't panic. Remeber (Stop, think, Act). Then follow your training, and common sense.
