Three divers are missing in the Red Sea

News | Africa - Reuters.com

According to what I read in the russian media/scuba forums - they decided to go deep (90m) on a single tank of air.
One of them was a scuba diving instructor.
:-(

You take all those factors. Very deep, one tank, %21 air. There is only one way that can turn out and it will not be good. Sounds like another tragdey of another diver diving beyond his training. Very sad and so easily preventable.

Super narc or Oxygen Tox...take your pick. 270 is a bit to close to 2.0 for me.

I would bet getting a "guide" for that dive would have been a bit difficult, or at least I would hope so.

When we tell ourselves 'hey they were stupid, they deserved to die' are we really just trying to deny the risks that are inherent in this sport. 'I would never do that so it can't happen to me.'

Diving is a risky sport.

My condelences to the families.

True, there are risks, but I think that nobody's really saying that they deserved to die. They did appear to be acting irrationally, and there is something to learn from that. But you won't hear me saying that they deserved to die. Mostly, I read this section, and some other similar materials to learn more about these risks, and add to my list of things not to do.

Most everyone knows the risk with diving. When someone steps beyond their training the risk goes way up. When someone does something stupid and dies from it, then all I can say is that I feel sorry for the family of the diver because of their decision.

I agree it was a foolish decision to make but I would never say they "deserved to die".

What can we learn from this? Simple, there are decisions we can make which will result in death, and IMO they probably had that nagging feeling which said no. Listen to the nagging feeling, it's there to stop you.
