Loss in Belize.

We were on a diveaboard the week before Christmas and a divemaster went out on a solo night dive and did not return. You may have seen info on a couple of "other" scuba boards. We've done a serious reality-check - please don't dive alone and make sure you have your safety equipment and that it is in working order. We don't want anyone to go thru the horrible time we did.

An old quote, but still useful:
LET"S BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

Sorry to hear about that one man. I can only imagine how that rattled everyone on that boat. Condolences to the family and crew.

my condolences as well, but it made me think of something - that'd be a kick ass way to "disappear" if it was planned of course...

I find this sort of event so sad. Your advice should be taken to heart by every diver.. thanks.

We see divers out solo all the time here. We just did a night dive last night, and it was the most current we have ever faced, it was scary for a second, so we went back and aborted, notice I say "we," I'm sorry to hear this, there's been too much stuff on this part of the board of late, but I guess thats a vacation "bump," I hope. It sure would be brave to go out alone at night. I've never even played with the concept. I hope all this bad news slows down.

Unhappy

Sorry to hear of the tragic dive news, its always a loss to the diving community when we lose one of our own.

Scuba diving is a risky sport whether engaged in a buddy team or group or 'solo'. These things happen and they happen to both 'solo' and buddy team divers.

My heart felt thoughts and prayer to the divers family and friends.

I was reading the post and I am sorry for the loss but it says he may of been using non working equipment. If that were true, it was an accident waiting to happen, though it was too severe.. Don't be foolish when it comes to life support equipment.

My condolences as well. I can see a solo day dive but night diving adds a whole different element... and to do it solo... not to smart
