Maldives/Indonesia liveaboard

So since my trip to New Zealand next month got nixed after it had been approved and signed off (thank you Cornell) , I'm thinking about what I want to do with the holiday time and funds which are hanging about to be spent.

I plan to take home leave in Japan this July, and I can certainly tack on some holiday there, but am looking for a nice week-long liveaboard to help ease the pain. Now, I know I can go to the Red Sea fairly cheaply, and I plan to do so. But I was thinking about doing something a bit more exotic.

Has anyone done a liveaboard in the Maldives, or Indonesia? I know they exist, but was hoping to get recommendations to help sift through the information.

I'm looking low-mid budget. Luxury isn't a huge concern with me, but I'm looking to maximize my diving.

Of course, I could also go to Thailand and get a liveaboard, but I think I'd like to go to a new country this time.

Any recommendations?

I think I'll plan on doing something in May or June, as July I'm going to be in Japan.

For the Maldives I would suggest the Manthiri for your liveaboard. CHeck out the post on it.... great pics and good description of the boat and dives.
