Our first 4 dive trips were all Cozumel as it was cheap for us (out of Denver). We used Papahogs and loved them. We haven't been there since before the hurricane but friends went recently and said it wasn't as good as before plus the cruise ships have taken over the small-dive island charm we loved about it. I don't know when, or if, we will ever go back there.
I would say go to Belize or Bonaire this time. Diving is different and you will enjoy either one. We used BuddyDive last summer and thought they were the best resort/dive op we have ever used - diving right in front of the resort was some of the best we have ever done, including night dives. But we haven't been to Belize yet - heard nothing but good things about it as long as you stay out on one of the atolls or do a liveaboard. We will probably do Belize next year on the Nekton (Nekton Diving Cruises - Comfort, Stability, Worldclass Diving) so we can do 4-5 dives per day and relax the rest of time. We don't care for night life at all, we can party at home. I wouldn't go to Bonaire if you only want to do 2 dives per day and then party. It isn't that kind of place. People who go there are dive dive dive animals and it is heaven for that. We loved it. Belize might be more what you are looking for in that respect. |
