I want to dive Gray's Reef (since I live in Georgia) but am having difficulties finding a dive operation for just a few divers (possible just me) that services that area.
The only charter I have found thus far is http://www.stsimonsislandexperience.com/site/539680/page/120088 and scuba marked (http://scuba-market.com/) if I want to charter a boat for $900 (which I dont) If you have any other suggestions/advice/information, please let me know FYI... Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary, designated in January 1981, is one of the largest near shore live-bottom reefs in the southeastern United States. The sanctuary is located 17.5 nautical miles off Sapelo Island, GA, and one of 14 marine protected areas that make up the National Marine Sanctuary System Visibility is about 10-75 feet, and the diving is mostly benthic, but the depth is about 65 feet, not too deep. Today the water temp is 63 degrees, but is steadily climbing as we continue into spring and enter summer. Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary website is Here: http://graysreef.noaa.gov/visiting.html But they do not sponsor dives, but they have pictures so you can see some of the organisms that live there. There's an online Gray's Reef Species ID at http://www.bio.georgiasouthern.edu/gr-inverts/index.html There's a Gray's Reef video at http://www.monsterscuba.com/graysreef.wmv , check out the Manta towards the end, WAY KEWL!!! |
