Honduras tips needed

My wife and I are thinking about diving in Honduras next month. Any reviews, thoughts, tips, advice, etc. on diving, where to stay, how to get there and around, etc.?

Thanks!!!

A group of us are going May3-10. We're flying Continental through Houston as they land on Roatan. From what I understand flying into San Pedro Sula or the other mainland hub (can't remember the name) means an overnight stay before the ferry/plane over.

If you are going, might book your flight soon. Our HOU-RTB flight booked up completely last month but it now looks like a group canceled as there's about 12 seats that just opened up.

We're not AI people so we're staying in the West End. Diving with Coconut Tree Divers. Supposed to be slightly more advanced diving on the North side of the island from what I've read. Also we're diving Spooky Channel, not all the southern ops will sail around to do it.

I've seen it recommended on another board not to rent a car on Roatan for liability reasons. It's cheaper to go by cab - or on the west end - water taxi.

We're doing the shark dive, it's done by one operator but booked through your resort/diveop. And we're also doing a day trip to Utila to (hopefully) see Whale Sharks thru Bay Island Beach Resort. Mar-May is supposed to be the optimum time.

We were also doing the zipline canopy tour but someone was just killed this week when a cable broke so we're re-evaluating that now.

One of the best sources I"ve found for on-the-ground info is Dive Bay Islands

Malaria's a reality there so get meds before you go.

I really enjoyed Roatan and will go back next month probably. I stayed at the Capt Morgan's AI. Great spot and with a super dive operation on site. Snorkling nearby just down the beach, and an easy 40 min walk along the beach, or $2.00 water taxi into West-End. No personal experience on the mainland, but talked with a couple who had done 1 week on Roatan, and one on the mainland and really regretted leaving the island. Another family had driven into a shoot-out during a tour on the mainland. As a diver, Roatan (AI or not) and I hear great things about Utila for diving, but much more basic otherwise-but, I have not been there.

I stayed CoCoView at Roatan a few years ago. They have nice setup. They have two nice wall on their back yard so you can do shore dive any time you want. Crews and Dive were very nice. Food was good as well.
