Remember that FedEx and UPS do not want your unboxed luggage; you must have it in a container for them to accept it. I used cardboard boxes from U-Haul for mine. Bad part is that at the end of the trip, unless you have access to another box to place the bag in, you're stuck flying back with your luggage and all the joy that entails at the airport. If you can stay an extra day in order to locate a shipping box for the return leg, okay; an alternate is to use one of the luggage shippers on the return leg only, and the FedEx/UPS on the outbound leg of the trip. My brain hurts; I may be over-thinking this whole thing. PPM Last edited by PlatypusMan : 03-27-2008 at 04:17 PM. Reason: clarity |

luggage shipping
Yes, returning can be a problem, but then I just check it with the airline - I don't care if they get it home 5 days late. (like they have 3 of my last 5 trips)
and for shipping out, fed ex will take a hard suitcase, (no need for a box), that you can check on the return with the airline. This system worked great for my last trip. I shipped it out 5 days before, and I had a fedex tracking number so I knew it got there, and when I checked into the hotel they said, oh yes, we have your luggage right here. Extra cost was $70 but it was insurance and piece of mind that my gear would be there. |

Hawaii/Alaska 3 Business Day1 Delivery by 7:00PM $3.50 $200.00 $200.00 $300.00 Monday-Friday standard service. here are the numbers per the web site still pretty expensive in my eyes. since i only take one bag, most airlines only charge 5 or 10 bucks. it the second and third bag that can kill you. if i was going somewhere for longer than a week than i would consider it. right now i carry most of my gear on the plane . a wheeled carry on and a nap sack. but i am going to pack and check one bag for this aggressor trip i have planned well see. if i can still pack what i need in a carry and back back than i am going to do that. i hate waiting for luggage.
