Skybus hits the dirt, another airline down!

This sucks, they had some of the cheapest flights (hindsight, hrmmm maybe no such a good idea) to Florida. We all loved the 10 dollar flights, yet again hindsight. A lot of people were left stranded when this went down.

This was posted on their website:
Skybus Airlines will cease all operations effective Saturday, April 5.

Skybus struggled to overcome the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment. These two issues proved to be insurmountable for a new carrier.

We deeply regret the impact this decision will have on our employees and their families, customers, vendors, suppliers, airport officials and others in the cities in which we have operated. Our financial condition is such that our Board of Directors felt it had no choice but to cease operations.

Passengers holding reservations for Skybus flights scheduled to depart on or after Saturday, April 5, 2008 should contact their credit card companies to arrange to apply for a refund. More information for customers and others will be made available on the Skybus web site (Skybus - Announcement) as it becomes available.

All flights for Friday, April 4 will be completed. Passengers holding reservations on flights for Friday, April 4 should check in for their flight at a Skybus kiosk at the airport instead of the Skybus website.

The days of cheap air travel are over. I don't really want to spend the money to fly myself and 2 diving sons to Cozumel on a commercial flight so I guess we'll be taking an increasing number of vacations driving to Florida.

I think there is still some cheap flights to be had, you just have to look a little harder now. I know that columbus, Ohio has a website FlyColumbus.com that you can go on to check out all the deals every carrier has that fly's out of columbus. I didnt know about this untill last week. In the rising costs though I did look at rail to florida, and its like 254 bucks. It would also take me near two days to get there, so thats out. If I drove I would spend a ton in gas as well.

Don't give up just yet. I found a great deal using Sun Country through DFW. Still cheaper than Florida

Earlier today saw something online that said Frontier and a few others were "shaky". Thank goodness my next trip isn't booked on American!

American Airlines had to ground a lot of their planes for inspection of some of their electrical lines. Leaving 1,000's of flights cancelled.

can you hook up with spirit airlines. if you subscribe to their emails they have 9 dollar fares and most of their hubs are here in florida. i am not too sure about the texas area though, but if they do have flights it might be worth a look
