For Key Largo, Brent with Blue Water divers runs an 8 or 10 pack boat. I have dived/dove with him several times.
About 12 miles south, in Islamorada, Gary and Brenda with Conch Republic have 2 different size boats. I have been on both.
Both good ops, with good people. Just kind of depends where you want to stay. Talk to both of them and then decide. Both BW and CRD are very active on Scubaboard.

Bummer. Well, maybe when I plan my trip you and your friend can tag along.

No problem, glad I could help - that was one of the sunsets from Morada Bay where we ate out on the sand / beach one evening last august - it was one of the prettiest sunsets that we saw during the week we were there.

key West is also short over a million bucks on the costs required to sink it and it trying to get money from the state.

So unless the shipyard bill is settled soon and they cough up an additional million or so bucks, I doubt you'll see it sunk this year.

They've been trying to sink that boat since about 2002.
Well, that sucks! I'll probably go somewhere else then. I've been to the keys the last 2 years, but I'll skip a year (or 2) if this is the case.

I hate that for you. The keys are a great place to dive. But get your AOW & go to the Flower Gardens. It's the best bang for your buck in this part of the country. But book the 3 day trip to get your money's worth.

In Key Largo we dive with Blue Water Divers (Key Largo Brent roams around the SB board, not sure if he's over here as well) and stay at the Marina Del Mar, which is walking distance to the dive op boat. We'll be there in late June again, and have already booked with Brent.

In Marathon we have a timeshare at the Hammocks - which does often rent out some of their units - my BIL rented one to coinside with our stay. For diving, we used Captain Hook's last trip as they've had a decent multi-day package deal, but haven't booked anything for this trip yet.

Been there several times, the key largo area is my favorite. I also like the marathon area. Key west is way too busy!

Conch Republic is actually in Tavernier - Islamorada is a little farther south. (minor - but thought I'd point it out)

They do, but they are at the northern part of Key Largo. Good for reefs, but most of the wrecks are towards the southern end. Shorter boat ride from Tavernier.
