Diving Around Port Charlotte, FL

Does anyone have any suggestions for diving locations around the Port Charlotte, FL area? Say within a 100mi radius? (Port Charlotte is on the Gulf Coast side about halfway between Ft. Meyers and Sarasota)

Only have OW certification so I'm looking for easy but interesting dives.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Add 50 miles to that and there's lots of good diving on the south east coast!

Heck, yes!

Call Florida Underwater Sports, at 941-870-4461.

They have all sorts of dives going.

Nokomis and Venice are great places to go diving for Megalodon teeth. All you need is a buddy, two tanks, and a dive flag / float.

I hear there is some good diving in the Sarasota area, and some more north off of Tampa...

I don't know it you have a boat, or not. But, what you can do is as follows. Go to a dive shop, and get a map of the artificial reefs near Sarasota. They are published by Sarasota County and Manatee County. The maps have GPS coordinates. Also, check with the local authorities about the regulations for diving. Motor out, and set your anchor line. Go diving. You may want to leave one person onboard the boat, while the others dive.

Just checked my logbook. In July, 2006, I saw barracuda, smallish grouper, and two giant spotted eagle rays on M5 Reef. Not bad.

This is off topic, but it has to do with Port Charlotte.

Do you know if Zebo's Custom Leather Products is still open?

I need some new sandals.
