I'd kinda prefer they just increase the ticket price, since that's what they're doing anyway, to offset operating costs. but I guess that's the "bait" to ticket sales. get em with low ticket enticement, then slam em with fees.....
I think the other reason they did the bags was because people tend to buy their tickets way in advance. So they wouldn't be able to net the extra money on everyone that already bought their tickets.

They're crafty buggers!

It's only an increase if you check more then one bag. So for me I'd rather have them charge the people who check the 2nd bag. Why should I have to pay extra so you can bring a second bag?

Just watch out for when they start enforcing carry-on weight limits, too. The 7kg limit REALLY sucks... especially when they ignore it on the outbound trip and suddenly pitch a fit when you;re trying to get home!

A very good point, since the reason they are doing it is due to fuel costs!

Hawaiian Airlines is following the other big carriers, and I believe the $25 charge starts June 10. Guess we'll be paying an additional $50 for our trip at Christmas.

My carryon usually weighs more than my suitcase, I have to bench press it into the overhead if it won't fit under the seat. I carryon as much of my dive gear as possible because Alaska Airlines has tiny, fine print that says they won't cover dive gear in their baggage. My hubby is just going to have to leave his golf stuff at home.

On 30 trips or so I've only had the flights to Layang Layang and inter-Island flights in Tahiti that weighed my carry ons.
