It was a bit of a schlep to get there, but it was beautiful! White sand beaches, thriving reefs, big pelagics like whale sharks, manta, dolphins, etc. Everything from deep wall dives to wrecks and even caves are available on the coast, and the tropicals are abundant... even the poisonous ones. Lots of octopi too. We stayed at an Italian resort called the Blue Bay in Watamu, and were a bit of a novelty as we were the first Americans to stay there in over a year. The locals (who speak both English and Swahili as national languages) had a great time practicing their American slang on us, and asking all sorts of pop culture questions like, "Is Tu Pac really dead? He keeps releasing new albums."

I didn't get the best underwater pics on my trip, but here are few:

Turtle Bay beach:

Stonefish:

A large and well-camoflagued octopus:

Scorpionfish:

Clownfish and anemonae:

Lionfish:

If you're interested, I also have a slideshow of photos from the Tsavo West/Ambosili game reserve safari my wife and I went on at MSilvia's slideshow on Flickr

It was OK. They don't let the sharks get very close to you, basically line you up against a wall and the staff gets between you & the sharks. You get closer in the wild sometimes.

Nice dive resume stuffer, but that's about all..
