We did not have the Steven's. Instructors at the op did not even teach cutting away. They thought a streamer/Maywest was better than nothing.
In the event of a partial malfunction we were taught to place a hand over the reserve, pull the rc then place the other hand between the risers and canopy then "throw" the reserve. If it failed to open, you were to give it a shake. Right...

Dad was supposed to jump into Japan. But after the bombs, he ended up as part of the occupation. His outfit did see action in Korea, but by then he was a reservist in the "new" USAF and ended up as a flight engineer on a C-119.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. All the live aboard's were coming back toasted. Are you doing the scuba live aboard or one of the other boats?

I constantly wore my hat and a good pair of sunglasses are a must. A camera too!

Are you going out of Islamorada or Britton?

It is an awesome program! The staff is wonderful! Do take a Luau shirt because it is fun to wear it for the last night.

I heard a lot of people slept on the boat deck instead of their bunks. I hope you have a blast! And please update on your trip when you come home!

We're doing the live aboard, but I don't know where we're sailing from; assumed Isla?

Got the cheesy luau shirt and a pad for the deck. Today is crawling......

Oh... I meant to add... if anyone gets the Outdoor channel we were filmed as the main crew for their Seabase part of a three part program on scout High Adventure bases. We had a film crew with us for three and a half days. It was pretty cool! I wish we got the Outdoor channel... I'd love to see it! Should show mid August!

My son and I just got our OW. I barely passed, I imagine Seabase is awful careful with these kids, or is it pretty loose? Does a divemaster go with you on the dives? Can I get lost? Night dive sounds out of my league right now, unless I hang onto the anchor rope! We are heading down after Christmas with no other dives planned until then. Passed OW and next is seabase, too much?
Thanks
lj

Congrats on passing your OW,not sure about Seabase, but I would consider talking with your LDS about local dives.Xmas seems a long time to wait until you dive again.Especially since you've stated that you barely passed.I got my wife OW in April and AOW in May and a PPB in June,I did this just for the the extra training with a instructor , also went to some local quarries she had 30 logged dives before I took her to Cabo in July, this helped her greatly as she was very nervous until she got into the water and her training kicked in. Good luck and welcome to a whole new world
