Don't know anything about Scuba Club Cozumel....
The question, What do we do who have non-diving spouses? Tiptoe very easy and try not to upset the balance. Two years ago, we went to Mexico and stayed at an AI resort (Grand Sirenis on the RM side). It was my wife, son, older mother, and me (all non-divers, but me). It worked out very good. There was a dive shop on the beach that went out every morning. I would get up and meet the boat at 9:00 a.m., get a few dives in and be back by noon. The rest of the day and evening I spent with the family - hanging out on the beach, taking day trips to some of the sites, etc. Then last year, my brother and sister-in-law (who are my typical dive buddies) came along on the trip. Same resort. This added a new variable. They were there to dive so we added more diving and even a trip over to Coz. This kinda upset the balance. We all had a great time, but I found myself having to work very hard to get the diving in I wanted to do and also spend time with the family. Wife was very understanding, but there were a couple times she felt I wasn't spending enough time with her. Like I said in a joking way, but it is very true - pay close attention to the "balance thing". Understand that although you might be in diving paradise, this isn't important to your wife. So, don't overdo it. Just my 2 cents, Snagel |

Tell me more about the "cheap" motel, PM if you don't want to post. The reason I ask is that me and the bud will leave wifes at home, so cheap and easy is good.

I've stayed at the Allegro twice (4 star), but it has been sold since, I don't know the new organisation. The Allegro Grand, next door is very nice (5 Star), with an onsite dive shop. Although you are South of the town, it is only a $15 taxi ride. Offsetting that is that the best reefs are all very close by. The resort itself is lovely with a good beach for the non-divers. My sister (non-diver) stayed there this past spring and loved it.
Town is nice, but the cruise boats tend to crowd the little town very easily. We enjoyed being, out of the rush (but not too far), on top of the best dive sites, and at a very nice all enclusive. Sandals-no, but very nice people and facilities. |

I am not saying an AI is not more cost effective in the big picture.....and if you don't think $1000 is expensive now days (unfortunately) I am afraid you should check current listings. (Staying the full week is usually the better deal than trying to save with a shorter stay) 3 Days diving, 3 tanks a day + 1 night dive will cost around $350 give or take. If you contact in advance you can get a 10-15% discount most of the time. Food, drinks and extra curricular activities are up to you..... You can enjoy 10 peso street tacos and roasted corn or you can eat $40 steaks at Primo's. (The McD's there charges $7 US for a Big Mac and Margretiaville charges $13 for a cheeseburger) Easy to find $1 beers at beach bars and $3.50 for a six at the XOOX (convenience store) or $7.50 for cool aid and Tequila shots at Carlos & Charlie's. (They even blow a whistle in your ear) The point is you can drop a bundle or play it cheap and have a great time either way depending on what you are comfortable with.......some people might feel uncomfortable to leave the resorts other than tours and visiting tourist trap stores and resturants. I was just trying to answer a question.

hotel Barracuda and Scuba Club are great inexpensive places. The Scuba Club is an all-inclusive so no need to go downtown for food and they have their own dive op in house included in packages. Barracuda is right downtown, oceanfront, and basic with dive op right there (Dive Paradise). These are great "basic" hotels, nothing fancy, for divers. I wouldn't take non-divers there. We have also stayed at Hogtown hotel when diving with Papahogs which was okay and very convenient. Villablanca hotel is right nextdoor which is a bit nicer, has tv sets in rooms, etc. Cozumel has many small B&B hotels also. (check out Cozumel for those)
hotel packages here: Caribbean Dive Island Vacations at Bay Adventures and Caradonna Dive Adventures - Dive Travel and Vacations both of these have great packages for Cozumel.
