Due to being a poor jobless college student, I own the basics. Mask, Fin, Snorkel and Regulator. My LDS owner knows me and my buddy really well and we always get a discount on rental gear, tanks and weights.. But i would much rather own my own things because renting a different BC every time get kinda old. Unfortunately I must put my education first =(

3. Have you own reg again I would not want to rent one a hundred other people have had their mouth on.
4. Fins learning how to use new fins on a dive big mistake. Learn in a swimming pool at home.
5. Mask nice to have one that does not leak.

Snorkel rent that if you need.
Definitely own your own wetsuit. It'll be a reasonable cost to not get scabies like someone I know got when renting a suit in Jamaica...ahem.

You're right to put your education first, financially frustrating as that can be at times.

Check the ST closeouts at ScubaToys Sales and Special Prices where there are some good prices on wetsuits - a good fitting wetsuit goes a long ways to making your dive more enjoyable.

When you think you're in the ballpark to afford a new piece of gear, check the ST website or call them and find out what would work within your budget.

Don't under estimate diving in ohio. Gilboa ,Whitestar ,Portage and even in a pinch Nelson Ledges. All these quarries have some very good diving. Not to mention wreck diving in Lake Erie, They say up here, that there is more men and metal at the bottom of Lake Erie than any other fresh water body of water in the world
