USS Oriskany

I just watched a very good 60 minute show on the Military Channel about the Mighty O. Good video in clear calm waters. The show also shows the ships history, as it is primarily about the ship, and not about diving, but the divers do penetrate the wreck. If you are interested, here is info cut-and-paste from the Military Channel website:

Quest for Sunken Warships
USS Oriskany

The massive aircraft carrier rests in 212 feet of water in a north-south orientation on the sandy bottom. With an overall height of 151 feet, there is plenty of ship to view within recreational dive limits.

Most of what is within rec limits is the island and vultures row. From those who have dove it, the flight deck is very close to rec limits at low tide but to do any justice, you have to go tech.

I can't find it, but I have seen a few techs doing flight ops with scooters on the #3 catapult. Very funny to watch and if they weren't former filght op guys, they knew the routine well.

I too hope to dive it one year.

Watched the show. Excellent in that it mixes both the current dive with history of the ship. Great series.
