Threat level
I just returned from a trip to Denver, with long layovers in a couple of airports. Consequently I got to listen to the Homeland Security advisories about airline threat levels being at Orange multiple times. This got me to thinking about the other trips I have taken in the past few years. Not once has the level been anything other than Orange. Has anyone heard of it being at another level? Has it ever been lower than Orange? (Orange is the second highest level - "High threat of terrorist attacks", just below Red - "Severe threat of terrorist attacks")
I understand the need for security and increased awareness but has DHS never heard the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf? |

I think that people are now so used to the threat level and the longer lines at security, etc...that nobody even bothers paying attention to what color the level is. You were probably the only person in the airport who actually listened to the announcement

I think it has been yellow for a while prior to the liquid scare, when it jumped back up.
Of course, given the rioting projected in Denver for the Democratic National Convention, we might as well be at red right now. So far.. My company is removing its name from the front of our building to reduce is visibility as a target. The building will be locked down aside from one outside door. The parking garage will be closed to all but those with electronic transmitters to enter the garage. The elevators will be locked down for all floors, including the main reception. The only way up will be by badge access. Additional security is being brought in from all other offices for the week. All employees will have to sign in and sign out. Its been strongly recommend that no one leave the building alone, and let your supervisor know where you are going and when you plan to return just in case. Makes you wonder who they expect to be in town for this convention that week. |
