Diving in Belize

I am looking to put together a trip to Belize/Utila/Honduras area. Anyone have recommendations on dive operators, hotels or specific areas they liked?

Of the three mentioned above I only have been to Ambergris Caye, Belize. The diving off San Pedro is above average, though boat rides are very short (5-10 minutes max). Outer atolls are better for diving but more remote and expensive. Outside of diving there isn't much to do on the atolls, unlike in San Pedro there are places to go eat and hang out.

If Ambergris Caye is your option, consider Sunbreeze resort and Amigos Del Mar dive operator. We didn't stay at the Sunbreeze but checked out the place and it is very diver-oriented. Plus it is located near mid-town, though the town is small. I used Amigos Del Mar, and they are top notch.

I have heard that about CoCo View...and that it is spectacular!

I'll be diving Utila next March, so will let you know about accommodations there after the trip!

I've been to Roatan and Belize. I'd go back to Belize. Cocoview was wonderful but the diving in Belize was better than Roatan. I stayed at Ramon's Village on Ambergis. LOVE IT - LOVE IT!

Have to agree with that -- the best diving in Belize is so far out, but so much better. There was a world of difference between the out atolls and the areas near the landbased resorts.

When we stopped around Half Moon Cay, there was actually a group camping there. I think they had to bring in all their supplies including tanks but staying right off of Lighthouse Reef would be amazing.
