Roatan: AKR or Fantasy Island

Looking at going to Honduras for the first time this spring. Trying to decide what would be the best resort to spring for.

Any pro's or con's for either Anthony's Key or Fantasy Island? If there is another resort that is worth looking into I would be happy for the lead.

Cocoview also has many fans, is across from Fantasy Island, and is the choice for people looking to maximize the number of dives on their trip. It also has better shore diving than AKR.

Personally I was at AKR in September and had a blast. The food and the diving was very good. The only downside is that the resturaunt is at the top of the hill, which means stairs to get there and back but a great view of the water.

We've been to Fantasy Island and had a great time! Lots of fantastic diving, great DMs and captains, great staff...blah food, but it worked. I would recommend it.

i have been to Las Rocas once and dove with them 3 other times. I like it there but it's primitive. I would say Fantasy Island or CoCo View.

Fantasy Island is for someone who just wants to dive like an idiot. I got in 22 dives in five days, I could have actually done more without any strain. The food is not that good, but is in abundance. The rooms are large and The staff are nice. I would go back just to do a lot of diving, but my wife says she probaly wouldn't.

If you do go, definately check out the reef in the lagoon adjacent to the resort, we snorkeled and saw lots of fish and even several large eels is a few feet of water. There is also a wreck in the lagoon that is very neat.

Try Luna Beach Resort ... It is in the west end area ... nice place and a great boat for diving

Just read this trip report and must say it is pretty accurate when comparing it to my last vidsit to FI. I have done about 20 trips in the last 4 years and this one by far was the worst accomodations I have experienced---and I'm not that hard to please.

Would I go back to Roatan? Most assuredly, but I would stay and dive with someone else. Maybe on the other side of the island.

went to AKR a few months ago and the place is great. The dive operation in first class. They do three one take dives so you can pick and choose when you want to go out. The shore dive is not so great but with all the boat dives not an issue. The cabins have just been redone and get one over the wanter on the island.
