If your looking for shore diving I highly recommend Maui. The coral is in great shape and the diving is excellent. Take your 3mm wetsuit the water is a little chilly but its worth it.

We dive on Maui at least once a year and LOVE it. Not everyone likes diving Hawaii since it's all hard coral and lava with few sponges, soft coral, and sea fans so I always try to "warn" first timers.

As far as a wetsuit, I won't dive in less than a 5mm full suit in Hawaii. My husband wears a 3mm full with a 3mm vest to keep his core warn. But we dive daily when we're there, so that repetitive diving really sucks the heat out of you.
