I suppose it depends on the specific cruise lines and destinations. Any restrictions concerning dive knives on a cruise ship is little more than Kabuki theatre. After all, I can simply grab any knife from a on board restaurant, or enter any unlocked kitchen during non-working hours.
What would be the point? Security check points on a ship is akin to security at any airport. Basically smoke and mirrors. Be observant long enough and the truth will be seen. cheers |

If you are close on the weight of your bag remember it will be heavier if you pack your gear wet for the trip home. I was fortunate I was under the limit by quite a bit so it wasn't an issue.

The suitcase, held together by electrical wire and tape, has made its last trip though. Time to give Larry some money for a new one. cheers |

I did Royal Caribbean to Key West, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman. Both my daughter and I had dive knives in our gear. Her's was confiscated and held by ship security. She could check it out at every stop in order to dive but then she had to turn it back in each time. It was a hassel. I also had a knife but they did not take it.
The difference between the two knives was that mine was folding "pocket knife" type consturction and her's was a fixed blade sheath knife type construction. The blades were essentially the same length. That was my first and only cruise. It's not my cup of tea. Give me a liveaboard every time, or a dive resort if no liveaboard services that area. Have fun. Dive safe. Art |

On a cruise, I've carried m/f/s in a snorkle bag and rented gear, because I didn't own my own. My next cruise I'm taking it all, but I'll most likely drive to the port unless I find a really good airfare ATL-FLL x 4.
I've heard carry a dive knife on a cruise can be a real hassle because every time you board the ship you have to turn it in and then you get delayed when leaving the ship while they retrieve it for you. With limited time at most ports, it can be frustrating waiting a half an hour for a knife. I just take shears. |
