Wet Suits in Puerto Vallarta

April trip to Puerto Vallarta--What do people recommend to wear in April there? Would a 3mm full suit and 3mmvest with hood be sufficient? I have heard stories with up to 7mm being necessary. Thank you.

Really depends on what you are used to and how many dives a day you are making. What are the water temps at the time of year you will be there? The more dives a day you do the more thermal protection you need your core temp drops and it is tougher to stay as warm on repetitive dives if you don't stay warm from the start.

So if someone was going to the Philippines and the water temp was 26-28c....do you think a short 1mm wet suit will work?

I live in Vallarta and went to dive this past weekend. Did 2 tanks at los Arcos. Water was 73 F. I used a 5/4 mm with no hood and was very comfortable.

Hope it helps

First off we were talking about Mexico not the Philippines but my main point is what works for one person might not work for another. Now me personally if I was doing 4 dives a day in 26c water over multiple days then a short 1mm wet suit won't work for me. Somebody else might be fine in the same conditions.

Last time I was in Puerto Vallarta I wore a t-shirt and board shorts. Two 45 min dives per day at Los Arcos and I was fine (a little cold at depth, but manageable), but this was in October when the water is at it's warmest. I wish I had my log books showing temps, but there ya go. If you can find out the temp swing from April to October, that may give a clue...
