Dive weights in Carry On luggage?

Has anyone taken dive weights through airport security in carry on luggage? I don't see anything prohibiting them but better safe to ask. Thanks

Why would you do that. I've never been anywhere that weights weren't available. And usually for no extra charge on charters.

I agree with BSea why would you bring weights. I've never had to rent weights anywhere they were always supplied with tanks. Maybe someplaces charge extra but I've never encountered it.

We will be doing mostly shore diving where weights are not readily available.

There is the additional cost if you go over weight on luggage. Having said that, I agree with BSea I've never been anywhere that did not have weights.

As far as the TSA allowing weights, hard or soft, who knows.

Have never taken any as carry-on, although in the old days of 2 suitcases at 70# and being a new diver, I would throw a couple of 1 pounders in my checked. (No one ever seems to have 1 pounders on boats!) Wouldn't do it these days with all the excess fees for baggage.

I know where you're coming from. I've been a few places that charge by the pound for the weights when shore diving.

I have carried ankle weights in my carry on bag.
I use them on my tank for trim purposes.

I stand corrected. Both good points. I've never asked a dive shop for weight rental. I guess you could try it. How many of you are traveling. You might be able to get some weight in with a bag if there was nothing else heavy in that bag.

I never carry them on, because they've ALWAYS been readily available on the other end, but I agree with ChinaCat in that I find it unlikely that air fills would be available but not weights?
