Roatan

I'm going to Roatan in may, staying at Anthony's Key Resort. Any warnings, cautions, tips, etc... that can be given would be helpful.

as was said....shark dive is awesome, bug repellent is a must.

try the cannibal cafe for a huge honkin burrito or chimichanga....

and, airport security will probably steal your batteries if you have them in your carry-on on the way out.

otherwise, it's an incredible place, enjoy

Don't spend all of your time at AKR.
Spend some of your evenings in the West End.
The food is awesome and the nightlife's incredible.
Have dinner at Argentinian Grill...then walk across the road to Sundowners (tiki bar), when they close (usually when the bonfire burns itself out), keep moving up the road to the next bar (just follow the crowd), and keep this up until you can no longer walk or the bars have all closed for the night.

Last year, I was there during spring break when MTV was filming the Latino Spring Break special and it was OFF THE HOOK.

Why would you say that they will steal your batteries? Your carry on should stay with you.

Has this happened to you and why?

Thnx....

of course, but it has to go through the xray machine...they pulled me aside, opened the suitcase, and when straight for my batteries...confiscated for no apparent reason.

You will love Anthony's Key!!
I wish we had stayed there instead of Blue Bahia which is just up the beach. Lots of good dive sites close by - make sure to do the 2 deep wrecks there - the Odyessy and I forget the name of the other one, but they're both in about 110' of water. Do the dolphin SNORKEL, not the dive - there is much more interaction and it is worth every penny if that's your kind of thing. YES BRING LOTS OF DEET - the bugs are as bad as they say. Visit Gumbalimba park and do the zip line - you will be sore but it is lots of fun. Spend some time in the park itself playing with monkeys and parrots. Visit West End for shopping, dining, nightlife, etc.

Have fun!!

I've heard that about the batteries as well but only on the cocoview chat board. On the way down at times it's been an issue as well from what I recall, unless they were in new sealed containers. I'll have my rechargables in my checked luggage and bring some new standard batteries just in case. Tip from the CCV board was to leave standard batteries whereever you stayed for the dive crew or whoever can use them.

What about on the way down, or is it just when you leave that they might take them? I can deal with that ok, but I'm getting ready to buy some flashlights that take the CR123 batteries and I don't want to be without a light for my night dive. Those kind are a little more difficult to find. Would it be better if I left them in the checked bags?
