Best time to dive near Tampa, Florida?
Is there a time of year that is best to dive near Tampa or Olando, Florida? My wife has family there and I would really love to check out some of their freshwater springs as well as some ocean dives. I am definitely a beginner though...so maybe not during hurricane season?

Hurricanes arn't that bad. They come and they go. Usually, around May or June the water is in the high 70s to mid 80s.

Try Crystal River
I would vote for Crystal River, located about an hour north of Tampa. The water is spring feed, so it is alway ~70 degrees. And this time of year it is loaded with Manatees. Just google Crystal River Manatee and spend some time reading. If the whole family does not scuba, then they can enjoy snokeling with the sea cows.
Another option is to do scuba diving at Disney. This is done at the large Living Seas tank (5.7 million gallon tank) at Epcot. It is pricey. About $140 for a 40 minute dive. Most Orlando folks head on down to West Palm Beach to do diving. IT is a couple of hours away. Have Fun! ![]() |
