where to go?
can't decide between Coz, Ambergris Cay or GC for late Nov vacation-don't want to rough it but don't need concierge service either-looking for attentive dive operator and lots of underwater visual stimulation-clean lodgings and access to good local cuisine essential-suggestions anyone?

I've been all over the Caribbean and like Coz as well as anywhere else. I have stayed at the Del Mar and Hotel Cozumel and both have very good dive ops and nice Hotels. I was thinking of going this summer. One place I have heard very good things about is Scuba Club Cozumel.....Hope this helps.

It depends on where you live....East coast, Midwest or West coast?.....I do not dive the states much but if you live on the West coast go to Catalina if you can do Cold water....East coast...Ft Lauderdale area...had some good dives down there.

GC diving is easy enough, but in general GC is more expensive than the other places listed, also if you are interested in anything besides diving, there's not much. Most of thestores even close early, or don't even open if there is no cruise ships.
Coz diving is really cool, great viz. Plus if you stay close to town, there's lots of restaurants and shops, or stay south and enjoy the beaches. Ambergris diving is really easy, saw lots of turtles and nurse sharks. The town is cool in a funky way, I really liked it, not much shopping if you are into that, but there is lots of reasonably priced places to eat. Lots of mosquitos!!

Good to know re GC as husband has to be constantly occupied whenout of water(doesn't go for chilling with a cold one) so I guess I can scratch that one- Looking like AC has some real possibilities, I don't think I can deal with cruise shippers, had exposure to that type during my OW course(why would they think they want to dive when they can't swim or are afraid to put their head underwater???) Thanx for the suggestions

Just got back from Coz tonight .... and going back in late Nov/early Dec. Can't beat Coz for great diving and cheap prices. There are lots of reputable places to stay back off the waterfront in town that are reasonable, or if you want a car - we do an Orbitz hotel/car deal that's ridiculously cheap using their entertain200 code. Having a car makes it easy if you want to stay a bit further out of town, or hit a restaurant way back in the neighborhood. We spent a big $14 on gas for the week.
As for an Op, we use Scuba with Alison. Have been diving with her for the last 4-1/2 years and love her to death. She has a great comfy boat, she's a great DM, and she a riot to be around. She also has reasonable rates.
