Cayman Islands

OK, work is forcing me to use up a bunch of vacation time this year, so I guess I might have to go diving.

I have never been to any of the Cayman Islands, and was wondering if I could get some recommendations from you pros. I have been to Bonaire and loved the shore diving, and I have done boat dives. My questions are.....

1. Is there good shore diving in the Caymans? Which island offers the best mix of shore/boat diving?

2. I'll be traveling with other divers, but they may not want to dive as much as me, so which Island has the best "alternative" entertainment.

3. Recommendations on hotels?

4. Recommendations on dive ops?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeh, there are a lot of posts, but I couldn't find any answering question #1 on my list.

This ones easy. Ocean Frontiers!!! Maybe a little more expensive than some, but if you do the package deal with the room and diving you don't have to do anything more than roll out of the bed and walk to the boat. When you arrive they give you a crate. Throw the gear you want on the boat in the crate and set it outside your door. They pick it up and have everything set up on the boat. End of the dives, you throw the gear in the crate and they rinse and store your gear.

Diving is on the East end of Grand Cayman. Spectacular wall dives, tons of swim throughs. There is always a breeze on that end of the island so it can be choppy some days. But they will find the best conditions and can get you into good water. We were there 6 weeks ago and there was little to no current, great viz and lots to see. Last day we dove in 4 to 6 foot seas, but the Nauti Cat (Jet powered cat) made for a stable platform.

We can't wait to get back.

Ron

Went to Cayman Brac a few years ago....would do a land based in Little Cayman next time just for something different. Plus, I think CB was hit pretty hard by the hurricane and LC was relatively untouched.
