just be prepared for the weird looks if you aren't flying out of Florida...
out of San Antonio, they wanted to pull them out, wipe them down... out of Florida, she kinda looked at me and asked "scuba gear?" and sent them on through...

We always put our regs (and computers) in carry on and never take them out of the bag unless asked. When we started diving 5 years ago our bag was ALWAYS opened by TSA, now they simply look at it hard on x-ray and off we go.

I carry on regs, computers, masks, camera outfit, flashlights and snorkels. My laptop is my personal item.

Never had a single problem. Just tell the x-ray tech you have scuba gear in your bag before it comes up on their screen, then they know what they're looking at ahead of time and won't be concerned. As for my canister light (which I also carry on), I tell them I have photography lighting equipment and battery packs, then they see the battery packs on screen and know what they are without getting nervous about the unusual shapes.
It's all about keeping them from being surprised, then there are no issues. (Not that there would be anyway, beyond a swab test, but still, best to keep things moving.) |
