How can the fish and other animals survive?
There is an occasional fish, but most were killed off due to copper treatment which was necessary for algae control.
Is that legal? Why is it necessary to kill the algae? Isn't it part of the ecosystem? The "circle of life" to quote a Disney character.

Here, where I live, even excavations of much smaller magnitude, must by law be left with littoral shelves and planted with native vegitation to contribute to the life of the ecosystem system. Private property or not.

I don't know. This is private property and didn't have much of a fish population to begin with. Apparently, the algae in our hot humid world got so bad that the quarry wasn't diveable. It is pretty awful this year too.

My worse dive ever was.. well a really cool dive but had to cut short because I failed to notice the tank wasn't filled full.
First dive in carribean.. well second counting the "check out" dive. First dive off a boat we will say. I was given dirty looks like I was some sort of air hog.
You betcha I check and recheck making sure I have a full tank now!

Athens and CSSP are good places to go to practice your skills before going for a "real" dive. For those of us who are landlocked, these are our only option to dive cheap and dive local.

I was thinking of diving there. I won't waste my time. Thanks.

I don't go to the quarry to dive, just to check out equipment. I figured I don't want to know if my new reg works by finding out that it doesn't at 130 feet on an ocean dive. Unfortunately, we just don't have any calm shallow ocean areas to do this in.

I did manage to go from Jan 2008 to July 2009 without having ever been in freshwater. I tried.

My worst is between 2.

1. Buddy and I were run down by a boat or

2. When a boat hooked my float line with it's lower unit. I had carelessly allowed the line to loop around my wrist....Got the picture?

I have seen pics from CSSP. It is alive n'est pas?
Seemed nice but for a few unatural things I saw in the pics.

I googled "Athens". Very weird. Like a big dirty swimming pool.

Yes, it has Perch, AKA Perch-rahna. They will attack ears and draw blood. During training, the training assistants hover above the students to shoo them away. The perch spawning grounds are interesting dive. Lots of vegetation. There are catfish; if you're fortunate, you'll see a couple albino catfish.
