#1 I seem to hear about this more in Florida than any place else...of course, you guys likely have more divers in the water than any place else, so statistically that makes sense.

#2 Ouch. - that's all I can say.

CSSP is nice...I've never had trouble with the perch. My only complaint is that it's a 4 hour drive from where I live. Which means if I go, it's for a weekend of camping and diving.

Someone on this board once posted a comparison about lake diving and sex with a condom.

It went something like "is it as much fun, NO, but you're still getting wet so stop complaining."

hmmm - that wasn't it exactly, but the meaning still shines through...mud, sticks, cold water, yeah, it's not ideal...but, since I can't go on vacation to dive more than 2 times a year, it will have to do.

Seemed nice but for a few unatural things I saw in the pics.
Yes, it has Perch, AKA Perch-rahna. They will attack ears and draw blood. During training, the training assistants hover above the students to shoo them away. The perch spawning grounds are interesting dive. Lots of vegetation. There are catfish; if you're fortunate, you'll see a couple albino catfish.

I googled "Athens". Very weird. Like a big dirty swimming pool.
True that.
Drndest thing. I forgot to mention to mm2002, but when we were in the hold of the wreck Saturday and I was hovering for my photo op, ikept thinking I was bumping something with my fins. I was clear of the bottom, bulkhead and any overhead.

Finally caught the little bastard A Butterflyfish! was nipping at my fins. No idea why unless he was going for the paint chips.

LOL.
Don't know that I would call it Paradise. The latter part of June through early September the temps (air) can get up to the mid 90's in the middle of the day if you don't live by the ocean. (I am lucky, I do) That means when you lunch, you either do it indoors or go to a waterfront eatery or watering hole.

Diving in the summer is nice. Water temps and air temps out on the boat are pretty much the same. Rash guard or skin is comfortable to dive.

Winter time sucks for diving. With water temps plunging into the 70's, most of us have to wear ~3mil. Very uncomfortable on the surface with air temps hovering around 80, getting sticky hot while smelling engine exhaust.

Athens and CSSP are good places to go to practice your skills before going for a "real" dive. For those of us who are landlocked, these are our only option to dive cheap and dive local.

I was thinking of diving there. I won't waste my time. Thanks.
I think after a little while Mammoth Scuba Park will be the place to go in south Texas for diving.

No different than south Texas summers. Your just closer to better diving than we are. Here it is a quarry or pond or a 180 mile trip out in the Gulf to the Flower Gardens.

I'd say not only that, sometimes the joy of diving is it's own reward. Like running and biking for example - it's not always about getting somewhere (or away from something) or seeing anything in particular. I think the phrase "at least we got wet" is deeper than it sounds...
