Okay here are two better places to practice diving and decent way better than Athens (I remember open water the 1 st time there 13 years) what did you expect from a clay quarry + new scuba divers=bad visibility!

Try Terrell Texas Scuba Park I really liked it its about 20 a person and you can camp out overnight no pets sorry, shower facilities and bathrooms. deepest is about 43 feet just dove it. vis was about 5 feet last month and 77 degrees temp in Sep

Then try out Lake Murray in Oklahoma great place vis was bad 3 feet due to bad rains, but usually about 15 to 20 feet excellent place two platforms one for shallow and one for deep dives deepest I heard is about 85 feet but you will need a light past 50 the water gets dark in the deep
price free, camp grounds and cabins and not far from a casino about 1 half from dallas. Cool thing about this lake its sendiment or rock bottom so generally best vis I have seen from a lake ever, has wrecks, freshwater jellyfish, walleyes huge cat fish and very clean.
BTW I miss florida too! Im planning on doing caverns again until I get back to the carribeans again!

Also known as Clear Springs Scuba Park (see my notes above); there is no "Terrell Texas Scuba Park". Did you visit the ScubaToys pavillion at the far end? The airplane dive is kinda interesting as well.

Agreed. I'm looking forward to diving there. Need a dive buddy. Sigh...

you can try Elmer Thomas in Lawton Oklahoma, the water temp this time of year is upper 60's low 70's decent vis. Bottom consists of rocks 3mil suit or better. Take a light it gets dark at 50 feet.....oh I didn't see any sticks!!

Good, Scott, you're still around. We should try Mammoth Lake next late spring. I know we tried this past year, and it didn't happen. Heck, I haven't been diving since Sept 08; even my tank is out of viz.
