Guam, Again

Ok I am coming home tomorrow horray!
I got one stinkin shore dive in the whole two weeks I have been here boo!

OK here it is... I was offered a job here permanent, a great firm, fantastic people and , well I am surrounded by glorious dive spots, all a short trip away.

Family, friends, so far from mainland, wife, 15 year old kid... I have a decision to make. Inputs welcome.

Nope would not do it.....People like you would be going to Palau once a month the then to Indonesia and drive up prices on Airlines, Dive ops, Hotels etc!....I'm glad you did not go to Palau the diving sucks so does Indonesia.....Stay in AZ....dive Cozumel, Little Cayman, St. Croix etc etc!

No decision for me, 15 year old kid....I'm not missing out. I have a 15 year old and no way would I be away from him. This is the final years that I have him. Soon he will be doing his own thing. We've had a lot of fun together, but soon he will be driving and moving forward with his life. I want to cherish these last days he is still under my control.

I say go for it. You only live once. Take the wife and kids with you. Skype with the rest of the family. Visit home on vacation time.
I'm jealous.

I wouldn't ask a 15yo to move all the way to Guam. At 15 he or she is just starting to look at higher education and moving to Gurm could put him or her at a serious disadvantage for college admission, scholarships, etc.

Get the kids out the house then think about it. If the job is there now, chances are itll be there later.

I grew up in the military and spent the majority of my younger life (pre-college) overseas in Asia and Europe. I don't think that was any disadvantage to me getting into college. (I also think that kids learn in spite of school, not because of school).

I would say take the family with you and have a ball.

If you have the option of taking the family...go for it. My 15 year old loves traveling and he will learn more by doing than by reading about it in a book. The only issue (we would have) is my 15 year old is a freshman in high school. He has spent his entire school life at the same school. He absolutely does not want to leave now. He wants to graduate with all his buddies and finish high school together.
