Oktoberfest 2010

I'm planning on going to Oktoberfest 2010 in Munich. I found airfare leaving Chicago on 9/16 and returning on 9/23. R/T price is $688. The festival is the 200th anniversary and these dates are for the opening week.

Question: Am I too early in booking flights for this price? Would I be better off in waiting?

Very confused. The way I'm thinking is that the chance of them going down more than going up is very slim. Please, any suggestions?

Buy now. As flights fill up, the lower fare inventories will dry up. And the fares themselves will probably only go up as the economy (hopefully) improves and oil prices go up. So buy buy buy!

Check with the on-line flight sites. I think its Expedia or Orbitz that guarantees flight prices, so if the price goes down, you get a refund.

Decided to buy my ticket as early as possible. Bought for $688. Can't wait. Anybody ever been there for the festival?

Orbitz has that policy, but it's based on another Orbitz customer booking the same exact flight at a lower fare thru Orbitz. In other words, I think the fare can drop, but if someone else does not book at the lower fare thru Orbitz, then you get no refund. I could be wrong on that, but it's how it read to me when I recently booked a flight to Nassau thru them.

You get a refund if someone books the same trip you do and theirs is lower you get a refund 30 days after the trip is over.

Example: you are going from Houston (IAH) to Cozumel (CZM) staying 7 days at Hotel Cozumel and it costs 825.00. Few weeks later someone else books a trip to Cozumel departing from (IAH) arriving at (CZM) staying at the same hotel same amount of days and they paid 750.00 then you would get a refund.

If they lower the price and no one else books then you get no refund.

Is that a direct flight? and is it for 1 ticket?

I just looked on Orbitz and found one for 391.00 plus 316.00 taxes and fees for a total of 707.00 R/T. Swiss Air from Chicago with a stop in Zurich then on to Munich. Same stop for the return trip.

So I would say the price you got it for is a good deal.
