yeah.... put in laps! Do you have a pool, or is there anywhere (a Y, for example) that she can put in laps?
The pool kicked my butt, and I was determined to increase my stamina and endurance, and forced myself to swim several hundred yards a few times a week. Between that and treadmill about 3 days a week, it made a big difference.

If she really wants to have her butt kicked, she could hop into some Master's program starter groups (though a Y), or just head over with her and swim some laps. That reallys is the only way. She could get some one on one training with a swim teacher to see if she has correct stroke and body position, as it will really help with fatigue. But, I am assuming you want the fast and cheap option, and that is just swim, swim, swim

Have her take swimming lessons. One LDS here in my hometown gives swimming lessons for just this reason.

tell her to take her time and swim on her back if she gets tired. that said, the better shape she's in, the more confident and comfortable she'll be.

Thank you for the thread. It contains some really good tips. I have a few months before our OW course. So I am going to go to our local pool to practice and practice and practice some more.
