We, meaning my wife and two other couples, were there in October of '06. The diving was really top notch. Dive with the Dolphin Dive Center. Bruce and Susan run a class shop. We stayed at the Inn at Loreto Bay. It was the best hotel in the area, but was not up to four-star resort standards. You have to understand that Loreto is still very early on in its "tourism development stage". In other words, if you go expecting Cancun, you'll be very dissapointed. If you go expecting an experience, great diving with wonderful hosts, and you're ready to "rough it" a bit, you're in for a real treat! Our Divemaster was Raphael. In my opinion, he is still the #1 DM we've been in the water with anywhere. His wife cooks up the SI lunches. The next time we get to go to Loreto, I'm going to send him a fat check up front to pay his wife for some more groceries. Her food was simply fantastic for the SIs. Oh, we saw nudibranchs, bat rays, sea turtles, dolphins, seals, morays, fish in HUGE abundance and so much more. We'd say to Raphael, "We want to see...(fill in the blank)... on this next dive. And, as if he was queing up the actors, he'd find them for us! Unfortunately, this trip was pre-camera days so...no film. I can't remember the name of our Boat Captain to save my life, though. He is a bull of a man, very friendly and eager to help our. On one dive, I surfaced early. I wondered out loud where everyone else was underwater. He pointed to each set of bubbles and told me who was under each one. Sure enough, as they each surfaced, he'd been spot on! He was that good and that attentive! Believe me, you'll have a great time in Loreto with Bruce, Susan and Raphael. Just let yourself go and have a good time! And tell 'em we sent you and we miss 'em all! Ian

All I can say is my experience stunk....surface water temps were 82 thermoclines were at 68 degrees...it was late June when I was there...water was green and not much more the 25' vis.....saw absolutely nothing....I also dove with the dolphin center and stayed at the same place....the owner (i think Bruce) was our guide...he tried to put the best face on the diving for us as he sold the trip as one of the best spots he had ever dove.....I have four dive locations around the world that were a big disappointment....this spot I do not even think about....I wish I could of had your experience.

I look forward to eventually diving around Loreto area, camped out in the Bay of Conception many years ago, prior to certification, and snorkeled around the shore rock outcroppings. There were colorful fish, clams on the beach and plenty to see underwater in the shallows. As we left the area, we actually saw a whale shark swimming in the bay. Absolutelya fantasic site to see - the water was sparking clear from the cliff area and looked like you could touch the bottom. This was during the month of November.
