I haven't been on a trip yet...since I purchased the rest of my gear...But, most of the people I dive w/ do. They bought a carry on (Red of course) and pack their reg & computer in it. One, b/c it was the most expensive part of their dive equipment. Two, this way it never leaves their site. If it is searched...they are right there w/ it. The rest of their stuff, they put under the plane.
BTW, Hello Fellow Okie. We are from Durant Area. |

I carry on the items I absolutely need to get in the water should the airline lose my check-on (it's not happened). Small bag with reg, computer, wrist compass, mask (prescription lenses), and bathing suit. Anything else I could rent in a jam. The BCD always goes in checked baggage; it's just too cumbersome to carry around, much less to wear. I use a large standard suitcase for my gear; nothing that screams "scuba".
Good luck and great diving. |

Hmm, interesting. I picked up a gear bag that will fit my whole set up, and is "carry on" size. I was planning on just carrying it all on (except maybe fins- my BC folds up nice and small) but now I'm 2nd guessing. So, does anyone bother to carry on their entire set up? I have a short connection on my next trip (25 min or so) and was thinking that it might just be easier than worrying about it.

What was your response? I think mine would have been something like "Nope, just like to carry 'em around. Here's your sign." Also thank you everybody for your responses to my question....good info. |

I have a 22" roller that fits in most plane overhead or under seat areas -except those AA Eagle planes out of Puerto Rico. In it I have both our regs, computers, main masks, two camera housings, strobe, arm, shelf, chargers, batteries, and laptop.
When stopped by gate Nazis I usually ask if I can ask the crew if I can put it in the crew closet since there's several k$ worth of photo gear packed. They usually say ok and most of the time it fits in the overhead or under the seat. If they force a gate check, I take the laptop out and pray. |
