Cayman ~ Brac Reef Resort Trip Report
What the heck....been surfing the forum, enjoying the posts, so might as well contribute a little.
Made non-stop reservations with Cayman Airlines from Houston to GC only to have them cancel that route a couple weeks before our trip. So had to do the Houston to Miami thing instead.....sigh, whatever. Then on to CB from GC and no problems with our luggage. I didn't check anything....one rolled carry-on and a backpack.
Rooms were great, requested and got a view room over the pool. Housekeeping was super. Yep, meals were as good as we'd heard....lots of variety, well prepared and nice desserts.
We went in September, right in between all the hurricane action. On the weather channel each night we'd watch amazed at all the tropical activity occurring everywhere but at CB.....we'd cut it thin flying out and were wondering if we'd have problems getting back home. The resort had lost a good chunk of their boat dock to the last hurricane and the staff said they were really relieved when it had turned at the last minute and headed west. But, it was gorgeous for us all week, calm seas, and good viz. (Clean livin', I suppose!)
Diving was as easy as it gets....we set our gear outside the door first morning in assigned mesh bags and never lifted a BC the rest of the week. The other dive resort has gone out of business so the only other boats we saw were from the Brac RR. First dive we saw a spotted Eagle Ray...thru week saw the usual suspects, and more turtles/rays than usual. Our DMs were Chris and Barbie...he's a great captain and she's a great spotter. We did the Little Cayman trip one day and we dived the Tibbets. The highlight of our trip was the last few minutes of the last dive of the week. We were at about 60 ft and a lone hammerhead came in, circled so everyone could get a good look at it, and then "scooted" up and away....only about 5 feet from my dive buddy. That was my first hammer and soooo cool. Cocos Dreamin' now!
