Puerto Rico Diving?
Just married a Puerto Rican woman, so I am planning on visiting the island in the next year or so. Would love to dive there, but in my searches on the internet, I haven't found consensus on great locations to dive there. When I go, I'll probably stay near San Juan. Was curious on where the best dive spots are and where I should plan to dive when I do eventually go. Thanks

i read an article in a recent dive magazine about the diving near some small island off the puerto rican mainland that sounded pretty awesome...apparently it's mainly inhabited by pigs and lizards, but anyway around the island is essentially a wall straight down, and the dives are drift dives that sweep you around the island itself....I know i'm not being extremely helpful here, but I'll try to dig up the article and post some more. It sounded really cool.

I'm from Puerto Rico and the best dive spots are in the west of the Island. In the most recent Scuba Diving Magazine there's an article exclusively for the West part of Puerto Rico. Must Dive Sites are Desecheo and Mona Island. Can't miss them. Also there's good dive operators around. Taino Divers is a dive operation in Rincon and is the best choice for diving Desecheo Island.
San Juan is not for diving, has great night life and a lot of historical places, a must go also. If you need more information let me know and I can sent you a lot of info related to diving in Puerto Rico

I went diving in PR and it's alright if you really really want to dive. But compare to other places in the Caribbean I would put it at the bottom of my list.
I go to PR about 2-3 times year and the West coast is the nicest of them all. If you have time.. if not then drive east and dive near Fajardo. You just got married? stay at "Mary Ann's by the Sea" I think that's the name of the house/inn I stayed at. It was amazing and beautiful.. (secluded, and quiet). |

I think the island 3rdEye is talking about is called Viequez. Fantastic scuba diving great visibility. They call it the best kept secret of the Caribbean. You can get there easiest from the east coast. I recommend East Puerto Rico Divers in Palmas del Mar for this truly spectacular adventure. Check out there website here: Scuba Diving Puerto Rico & Viequez
Lots of air and bubbles for you all. |

From what I gather from a couple of website and some reading is that diving off of the mainland is not so great. However, the diving at the outer islands, like Desecheo and Mona, is really awesome! If I recall correctly, Mona is a long ways out and is usually done as a camping trip.
